The Poon Hill trek itinerary 3 days starts with a short drive from Pokhara to Nayapul, about 1 and a half hours. Nayapul is the beginning point of many Annapurna region treks including the Annapurna Base Camp trek, Khopra Ridge Trek, Annapurna Sanctuary Trek, Khayer Lake trek, and more. Throughout the Ghorepani poon hill trek, you will pass through dense forest areas, highland villages and settlements, and waterfalls.
Additionally, you will also witness the ethnic culture and daily lives of the local people. The traditional food made from locally sourced ingredients could be your new favorite dish of all time.
From Nayapul, we will hike up to Ulleri, and from there we head towards Ghorepani, which is the only difficult part of this trek. Basically, you have to climb over 3000 steps to get out of Ulleri. Ghorepani is the base camp of the viewpoint of Poon Hill. This little Magar village is situated at an altitude of 2,874 meters above sea level, which can be a little chilly.
Hiking from Ghorepani to Poon Hill, and watching the sunrise scene is the climax of this Pokhara to poon hill trek. From the viewpoint, scenes of Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre, Annapurna massif, and Himchuli are apparent. But the poon hill trek 3 days does not end there; we will continue trekking to Tadapani, another scenic location of the Annapurna region.
After breakfast, drive to Nayapul and start your trek along the Modi Khola river. Cross the suspension bridge and hike through charming villages like Birethanti and Tikhedhunga. The day ends with a climb up the famous stone steps to Ulleri village, surrounded by terraced fields and stunning mountain views.
The trail continues through beautiful rhododendron and oak forests. You may spot exotic birds and wildlife along the way. The gradual ascent leads you to Ghorepani, a picturesque village nestled below Poon Hill. Spend the afternoon exploring or relaxing with views of Annapurna South and Dhaulagiri.
Wake up early for the hike from Ghorepani to the top of Poon Hill and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the sunrise over the Himalayas – Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre and more – as the mountains glow in golden light. After soaking in the views, return to the hotel for breakfast, then continue to Nayapul and drive back to Pokhara.
