The Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek 6 days is a short yet captivating and exciting Himalayan trekking adventure that has been one of the most visited trekking destinations in Nepal.
Last year, the Annapurna region was the most visited trekking destination in all of Nepal, beating destinations like Everest Base Camp, Gokyo Lake, and Manaslu Base Camp. While the trekking region is the most visited, this trek is surprisingly less crowded. Most people opt for Poonhill, Ghandruk, and other lower-region destinations.
Along the way, you will get to enjoy many scenes of the Annapurna I, II, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, and more. There are many panoramic viewpoints en route, and we will take breaks to take in the amazing scenery presented in front of us. The lush green hills, the raging white river, and the snow-covered peaks in the distance accompany us for the most part.
Starting from Jhinu Danda, we will go through many thick forests, pass glacial valleys, terrace farming lands, rivers, and more. Our itinerary passes by villages such as Chhomrong, Bamboo, and Deurali, which are the main stops along the way. While the unpopular stops provide a more authentic countryside stay, they also lack even some basic amenities, which is why we will stick to safer options.
Most of the villages in the region are dominated by the Gurung and Magar communities, who are known for their fierce Gurkha rage, but also their warm, welcoming smile that you will definitely see during this Annapurna Base Camp Trek 6 days.
They have a rich culture and traditional practices that you are likely to see on this trek. Many of the villages in the region have nightly performances that showcase their traditional instruments, songs, attire, and dance.
Taking an early morning ride to Jhinu Danda, we will be on the road for about 2 hours. Starting from Pokhara, we will head north and turn east after we reach Hemja. Continuing east, we will soon turn north again to get to Nayapul and head towards Jhinu Danda. En route, our permits will be checked at Birethanti village. Shortly after that, we will arrive at Jhinu Danda, reaching 1780 meters above sea level. After our arrival at Jhinu Danda, we will get ready for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek 6 days. You will have to carry a light daypack to have easy access to your water bottle, devices, energy bars, and other stuff. Meanwhile, our strong porters will carry your heavy bags. Every two trekkers in the group will share a single porter. Today’s trek distance is just 5 km, which takes about 3 hours to complete. The elevation gain of the day is almost 400 meters, taking us to 2170 meters above sea level. Starting the first trekking day on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek 6 days, we will initially cross a suspension bridge to cross the Modi River. After crossing this almost 200-meter-long bridge, we will ascend stone stairs gently and trek a dirt path to reach our destination of the day. Along the ascent, there are many plain stretches that are great resting points with views of the Annapurna South peak.
On the 2nd day of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek 6 days, we will cover over double the distance, about 11 km, and trek for about 5 to 6 hours to reach Bamboo village. This trek will gain us a cumulative ascent of 640 meters with 370 meters of descent. The net elevation change of the day is very minimal. Starting the trek, we will descend from Chhomrong, going over a set of stone stairs and crossing the Chhomrong River over a suspension bridge. After that, we will get to an ascending trail going through a lush rhododendron and cedar forest. About halfway through the trek, we will reach Lower Sinuwa village, followed by Upper Sinuwa. From Chhomrong, we will cover about 5 km to reach Sinuwa village. Following a short resting session there, we will continue the trek by gently ascending over a rocky terrain. This trail leads us to Khuldighar, reaching 2540 meters above sea level.
Leaving Khuldighar, we will start the final descent of the day. This sharp descent takes us through a thick bamboo and rhododendron forest, featuring a short section of stone steps. After a short while, we will arrive at the destination of the day. En route to today’s destination, we will get to see views of Fishtail and Annapurna South peaks.
Day 3 of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek 6 days features a 5 to 6 hours of estimated trek duration with an elevation gain of 920 meters. The cumulative ascent throughout the day is much greater as the trails are uneven and full of ups and downs. Stretching over 10 km, today’s trek starts with a gentle ascent through a forested section, featuring a handful of small streams and makeshift bridges. After covering 2 km of distance, we will reach the village of Dovan. From there, the trail turns more rugged with more ascents. Trekking for 3 more kilometers takes us to the Himalaya village, where we rest a little before continuing the trek. The vegetation starts to get thinner as we move forward, and the trails feature sharp ascents as well. After about 5 more kilometers of trekking, we will finally arrive at Deurali village. This village sits at 3230 meters above sea level, offering a charming countryside vibe.
This is the climactic day of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek 6 days, we will finally reach the Annapurna Base Camp, passing by Machhapuchhre Base Camp. The total estimated trek duration is 5 to 6 hours, with a total trek distance of almost 7.7 km. The elevation gain of the day is a little over 900 meters. Starting off, the trail goes up a sharp ascent over stone steps and forested trails. Soon enough, we will climb a set of switchbacks over a rocky terrain, winding along the slopes of an avalanche-prone hill. Passing by the Hinku Cave area, the vegetation transitions to alpine settings in an instant. After we reach Machhapuchhre Base Camp, we will stop for a bit, rest our legs, and enjoy the scenes of Annapurna I, Machhapuchhre, Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, and Gangapurna. Leaving Machhapuchhre Base Camp, we will follow a grassy trail, ascending steadily up the valley. En route, we will cross many streams and soon reach the final ascent of the day. After about an hour of trekking, we will finally reach Annapurna Base Camp. This base camp sits at 4130 meters above sea level and offers views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna I, Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli.
We will spend the night at a nearby lodge, but a short hike to a higher ridge is mandatory to keep you away from altitude sickness.
Today is the longest trekking day of the entire Annapurna Base Camp Trek 6 days itinerary. The total trekking distance is 14 km, with an estimated trek duration of 6 to 7 hours. The elevation loss of the day is about 1800 meters, descending all the way down to 2310 meters above sea level. After a short resting break there, we will head towards Deurali village. From the Machhapuchhre Base Camp, we will trek about 3 km to get to our next stop.
