Daywise Itinerary

Arrive at Paro International Airport, where your guide will warmly welcome you. Enjoy your first views of the scenic Paro Valley before driving to Thimphu. The day is kept light to help you acclimatise to the altitude.

Evening:
Take a gentle walk around Thimphu town, starting at Clock Tower Square and strolling along Norzin Lam. Discover local shops, cafés, and traditional Bhutanese architecture.

Explore the highlights of Bhutan’s capital:

  • Visit Buddha Dordenma, a golden statue overlooking the valley.
  • Discover Bhutan’s national animal at Motithang Takin Preserve.
  • Experience local spirituality at National Memorial Chorten.
  • Stroll through the vibrant Centenary Farmers' Market (weekends).

Drive across the scenic Dochula Pass (3,100m), adorned with 108 chortens and offering panoramic Himalayan views. Continue to Punakha and visit:

  • Chimi Lhakhang, the famous fertility temple.
  • Punakha Dzong, Bhutan’s most beautiful fortress at the confluence of two rivers.

Drive to Gasa and onward to Thongchu Zam, where your trek begins. Hike through forests and highland trails to reach Laya. Enjoy your first encounters with Layap culture and stunning mountain scenery. Overnight in camp.

Immerse yourself in the vibrant Royal Highlander Festival. Experience traditional highland life, yak-based culture, local competitions, and community celebrations set against a dramatic Himalayan backdrop.

Continue exploring the festival, where highlanders gather to share traditions, skills, and innovations. This unique event reflects Bhutan’s commitment to preserving highland heritage and sustainable livelihoods.

Descend from Laya back to Thongchu Zam. Meet your vehicle and drive to Punakha for an evening.

Return to Paro. En route and upon arrival, explore:

  • National Museum of Bhutan, showcasing Bhutan’s rich heritage.
  • Rinpung Dzong, a magnificent fortress monastery.

Drive to Haa Valley via Chele La Pass (3,988m), the highest motorable pass in Bhutan. Visit the sacred Jangchub Chorten and enjoy the untouched beauty of this remote valley.

Hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery, Bhutan’s most famous landmark perched dramatically on a cliffside. Later, visit the ancient Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in the country.

After breakfast, transfer to Paro International Airport for your onward journey. Depart with unforgettable memories of Bhutan’s landscapes, culture, and warm hospitality.
