Paro Tshechu is Bhutan’s most famous and most vibrant festival, drawing visitors from around the world to the courtyard of the majestic Rinpung Dzong. Over several days, monks and laypeople in elaborate costumes and masks perform sacred cham dances that dramatize Buddhist teachings and the life of Guru Rinpoche. The festival culminates before dawn on the final morning with the unfurling of the giant Thongdrel — an enormous sacred appliqué tapestry whose very sight is believed to cleanse the viewer of sin. This tour is timed to place you at the heart of the celebrations while also covering Paro and Thimphu’s essential cultural highlights, including the iconic Tiger’s Nest.
Please note: festival dates are tentative and set by the lunar calendar; final dates are confirmed by the Department of Tourism closer to the event.
