The Ghorepani poon hill trek starts from the amazing metropolis of Pokhara and ends there as well. Every person that has been to Poon Hill has only praised its scenes.

The Ghorepani Poon Hill trek itinerary 4 days starts with a short drive from Pokhara to Nayapul, about 1 and a half hours. Nayapul is the beginning point of many Annapurna region treks including the Annapurna Base Camp trek, Khopra Danda Trek, Annapurna Sanctuary Trek, Khayer Lake trek, and more. Throughout the Ghorepani poon hill trek, you will pass through dense forest areas, highland villages and settlements, and waterfalls.

Additionally, you will also witness the ethnic culture and daily lives of the local people. The traditional food made from locally sourced ingredients could be your new favorite dish of all time.

From Nayapul, we will hike up to Ulleri, and from there we head towards Ghorepani, which is the only difficult part of this trek. Basically, you have to climb over 3000 steps to get out of Ulleri. Ghorepani is the base camp of the viewpoint of Poon Hill. This little Magar village is situated at an altitude of 2,874 meters above sea level, which can be a little chilly.

Hiking from Ghorepani to Poon Hill, and watching the sunrise scene is the climax of this Pokhara to poon hill trek. From the viewpoint, scenes of Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre, Annapurna massif, and Himchuli are apparent. But the poon hill trek 4 days does not end there; we will continue trekking to Tadapani, another scenic location of the Annapurna region.

From Tadapani, we will move on to Ghandruk, a traditional hub of the region with lots of cultural performances that you can enjoy. After spending a vibrant night in the village, we will take a ride back to Pokhara. This will be the end of our poon hill trek 4 days itinerary.

Daywise Itinerary

If you are set to arrive at Pokhara on the very first day of the poon hill short trek, we can arrange a pickup service from Nyindha Adventures at your convenience. After we pick you up from wherever you are, we will immediately start the journey. The ride will take you to Nayapul in about 1 hour 30 minutes; this starting point is located right beside the Modi Khola river.

We recommend starting the trek early in the morning, preferably around 8 or 9 AM, as we have 5 to 6 hours of trek to be covered. We aim to get to Ulleri village before late afternoon sets in.

From there, we will start our trek and move towards Birethanti, a nearby village. Birethanti leads the way for us to enter the protected region of the Annapurna Conservation Area. Shortly after we enter the conservation area, we will have to climb a set of stairs that leads us to a beautiful view of the natural highlands and the villages of the Gurung and Magar tribes. The ethnic people of the region are Gurung and Magar people, who are known for their welcoming character and hospitality.

Continuing the trek, we will travel through a gravel trekking trail with no big buildings in sight. There is a high chance of you encountering cattle transporting commodities and goods, as there are no roads that make these villages easily accessible. You will also find many tea houses along the way and a couple of eateries, which are the default restaurants of the region.

Following a 5 to 6-hour trek, we will get to our destination of the day, Ulleri, and spend the night there.

  • Activity: Drive to Nayapul and Trek to Ulleri village 5-6 Hours
  • Maximum Altitude: 2060m / 6,759ft (Ulleri Village)
  • Meals: Breakfast,Lunch and Dinner

Trek from Ulleri to Ghorepani is day 2 of the short Poon Hill trek. Starting the trek from Ulleri, we will get on a stone-paved trail that leads us to a set of stone stairs, which is quite the workout. This portion of the 4 days poon hill trekking is shaded by a forest that eventually turns into a rhododendron forest.

Rhododendron is the national flower of the country, and it’s a really beautiful sight when the flowers are in full bloom. If you want to experience the blooming flowers, you have to visit the region during the late winter season or right at the start of summer. These flowers are not only pretty but also edible and used in several local remedies. It is also used to make alcohol and wine. Passing through scenic trails, we will arrive at Banthanti in about 1.5 hours. This village sits at an elevation of 2250 meters and is a popular spot for trekkers to take a short rest before resuming the journey. Following a short break, we will hike a slightly inclined trail that leads us to Nangethanti, a village at 2460 meters. This village is yet another spot to take a break; it’s a really peaceful area full of natural sounds that will make you fall asleep. As we step out of Nangethatni, the forest trees start to thin out as we gain altitude with each step. The scenes of trees are now replaced by the amazing Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himalayan ranges. Today’s trek will last about 5 hours (max) and as soon as you reach Ghorepani, you will feel the welcoming warmth of the locals. Ghorepani is where we will spend the night and rest for the big day tomorrow. Note: Although our porters will carry all your heavy bags, you must still carry a daypack that holds all the items essential during this short. Items like water, energy bars, phones, cameras, etc. should be in your daypack.

Today is the main day of the Ghorepani poon hill trek, we will begin our day before the break of dawn as we are aiming to experience the sun rising from the viewpoint of Poon Hill. The morning hike from Ghorepani to Poon Hill viewpoint takes about 50 minutes, which is nothing compared to the hikes we went through to get to Ghorepani. After reaching the viewpoint, you can have a cup of warm tea and wait for the sun to rise or have it while watching the amazing view of the rising sun. When the sun comes up with its radiant orange glow, the white peaks in the distance reflect the light and shine gloriously. This scene is simply magical, and we are sure you will take tons of photos.

After we are done with the sunrise views, we will get back to our last night’s accommodation in Ghorepani, where we will have our breakfast and set off for Tadapani. We will begin our trek to Tadapani at around 9:30 AM. Our first stop on the way will be the Deurali Pass, which is at about the same altitude as Poon Hill and also offers a panoramic view of the Annapurna Himalayas. However, unlike Poon Hill, this viewpoint gets a bit windy at times. Shortly after, we will reach Banthanti, following a descent through stone stairs. After about 4 hours from Ghorepani, we will arrive at the village of Banthanti. As we reach Banthanti, the landscape gets a bit more humid and the trees begin to thicken. After a heavy meal, we will rest for a bit before heading down to Tadapani. This leg of the trek is mainly descent, where we will cross the Modi Khola river once again and ascend to the village of Tapapani. Day 3 of the Poon Hill trek route requires around 6 hours of trekking, but the trail is fairly simple and won’t be that tiring.

On the way, you will pass through oak and rhododendron forests, which is the best part of the trail.
