The Everest Base Camp Helicopter Trek – 12 Days combines a classic Everest Base Camp trekking experience with the convenience of a helicopter return. The journey begins in Kathmandu with a scenic helicopter flight to Lukla, followed by trekking through the heart of the Khumbu region.
The trail passes through Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Debuche, Dingboche, Lobuche, and Gorak Shep before reaching Everest Base Camp. Along the way, trekkers experience Sherpa culture, traditional villages, suspension bridges, monasteries, and spectacular views of the Himalayan range.
The itinerary includes dedicated acclimatization days at Namche Bazaar (3,440 m) and Dingboche (4,410 m) to allow gradual adaptation to increasing altitude.
After reaching Everest Base Camp, the trek continues with an early-morning hike to Kala Patthar for panoramic mountain and sunrise views. From Gorak Shep, a helicopter flight takes you directly back to Kathmandu, providing an aerial perspective of the Himalayas and eliminating the need to retrace the entire trekking route.
The trek requires a reasonable level of fitness because several days involve walking at high altitude. Proper pacing, hydration, acclimatization, and preparation are important for a safe and enjoyable experience.
Welcome to Nepal. Upon arrival at Kathmandu airport, you will be met by Nyindha Adventures team and transferred to your hotel. After check-in and some rest, you will meet your trekking guide for a detailed briefing about the trek. Your guide will explain the itinerary, safety procedures, equipment requirements, and high-altitude considerations. The evening includes a welcome dinner featuring Nepali cuisine.
After breakfast, explore the cultural heritage of Kathmandu Valley with a local guide. Visit:
The sightseeing provides an introduction to Nepal's Hindu and Buddhist traditions. In the afternoon, return to the hotel for final trek preparation. Your guide will check your equipment, help organize your duffel bag, and ensure you have suitable clothing and gear for the high-altitude environment.
After an early start, take a scenic helicopter flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. The flight takes approximately 35 minutes, depending on conditions.
After landing at Lukla, meet the trekking support team and begin walking toward Phakding.
The trail follows the Dudh Koshi River and passes through small villages, prayer wheels, mani walls, and mountain scenery. The first trekking day is relatively moderate and provides an opportunity to settle into the rhythm of the trek.
Arrive at Phakding in the afternoon and rest at the teahouse.
After breakfast, continue along the Dudh Koshi River toward Namche Bazaar.
The trail passes through villages including Benkar and Monjo and crosses several suspension bridges. You will enter Sagarmatha National Park before continuing toward the steep final section to Namche.
As the altitude increases, maintain a steady pace and stay hydrated.
Namche Bazaar sits in a natural amphitheater surrounded by mountains and is the main commercial and trekking hub of the Khumbu region.
Today is dedicated to acclimatization.
Enjoy a relaxed morning exploring Namche Bazaar before taking an acclimatization hike toward the Everest View Hotel area.
The hike provides an opportunity to gain elevation during the day before returning to Namche at a lower sleeping altitude. Weather permitting, you may see Ama Dablam, Everest, Lhotse, and other Himalayan peaks.
Spend the evening resting, hydrating, and preparing for the higher elevations ahead.
Leave Namche and follow the scenic trail toward Phunki Tenga.
After lunch, begin the uphill section toward Tengboche, home to the famous Tengboche Monastery.
Take time to explore the monastery and enjoy the surrounding mountain scenery before continuing downhill toward Debuche.
The landscape gradually changes as the trail moves from forested terrain toward the higher alpine environment.
Continue through the upper Khumbu region, passing mani walls, chortens, traditional settlements, and mountain landscapes.
The trail crosses the Imja Khola and gradually climbs toward Dingboche.
Dingboche is a traditional high-altitude settlement surrounded by stone-walled fields designed to protect crops from wind and animals.
As the altitude increases, maintain a slow pace and drink plenty of water.
A second acclimatization day helps prepare your body for the elevations ahead.
After breakfast, take a hike toward a nearby ridge, reaching approximately 5,100 m (16,732 ft) depending on conditions and the group's pace.
From the higher viewpoint, enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and Himalayan peaks before descending to Dingboche.
The afternoon is reserved for rest, hydration, equipment preparation, and recovery.
Today the trail enters a more rugged, high-altitude environment.
Trek along the Khumbu Khola toward Dhugla. From there, the route climbs toward the memorial area dedicated to climbers and guides who lost their lives in the Everest region.
Continue toward Lobuche, a small settlement surrounded by dramatic mountain and glacier landscapes.
The increasing altitude makes this a demanding day, so maintaining a slow pace and staying hydrated are important.
This is one of the most important days of the trek.
Start from Lobuche and trek through the rocky, open landscape toward Gorak Shep.
After lunch and a short rest, continue toward Everest Base Camp at 5,364 m (17,598 ft).
The trail crosses challenging high-altitude terrain with views of the Khumbu Glacier and surrounding peaks. Spend some time at Base Camp before returning to Gorak Shep for the night.
This is a long and demanding day, so maintain a steady pace and communicate with your guide about how you are feeling.
Wake early for the hike to Kala Patthar (5,545 m / 18,192 ft).
The climb is relatively short but physically demanding because of the altitude and cold temperatures. From the viewpoint, enjoy panoramic views of Mount Everest and surrounding Himalayan peaks as the sun rises.
After descending to Gorak Shep and having breakfast, board a helicopter for the flight back to Kathmandu.
The flight provides spectacular aerial views of the Himalayan landscape and eliminates the need for the long return trek.
Upon arrival in Kathmandu, transfer to your hotel and enjoy a well-earned rest.
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before preparing for your departure.
Depending on your flight schedule, you may have free time for shopping, sightseeing, or relaxing in Kathmandu.
A representative from Nyindha Adventures will arrange your airport transfer according to your departure time.
