Today, our lives are overwhelmed by screens and digital noise, and thus, more and more people are searching to escape for a deeper connection with nature. If you are also looking for such an escape for a few days, then look no more, as Nyindha Adventures presents you with its Ama Yangri trek.
Once hidden in the deep regions of the Helambu Valley, the Ama Yangri trek is now turning into a viral destination where you can disconnect yourself for a few days, cleanse your soul, and connect to nature once again.
Make no mistake, our Ama Yangri trek 7 days journey is also an active and adventurous vacation that will lead you to the 3771 m summit of Ama Yangri, a sacred peak for Buddhists that dominates the skyline of the entire Helambu Valley.
The name Ama means Mother, and Yangri means protector, which not only safeguards the faithful but also brings fortune and abundance. This summit is also regarded as the POON HILL of the region, and why not?
Standing atop, the scenery is dominated by the pristine presence of Langtang Range (Langtang Lirung, 7234 m), Ganesh Himal (7422 m), Gaurishankar (7135 m), Dorje Lhakpa (6966 m), Jugal Himal, Manaslu (8163 m), Annapurna (8091 m), and Everest (8848 m) as well.
The Ama Yangri trek is also the nearest to Kathmandu, located in the Sindhupalchowk District, 90 km north of Kathmandu, inside the stunning Langtang National Park. It requires no long days or difficult hikes, and it avoids extreme altitudes.
Therefore, whether you are seeking group travel or a more personal experience, we will make your Ama Yangri trek both tranquil and peaceful, providing you with the outdoor adventure you are looking for.
Our Ama Yangri trek itinerary will lead you out of Kathmandu to Timbu, from where you will start to hike deeper into Helambu Valley. On the fourth day of the trek, you will already be tracing the path to the summit.
Then, traversing the beautiful dense forest trail of Sermanthang and Melamchi Market, you will be back in the chaos of Kathmandu. En route, you will live in the cozy, warm lodges of the Tamangs, Sherpa, and Hyolmo communities, witnessing their Buddhist customs and life.
Our Ama Yangri trek is a very light easy hiking journey ideal for anyone. It will be inherently wonderful and gracious in the spring and autumn months.
However, the full moon of March or April is especially important when you can observe a unique puja ceremony at the Ama Chummu Yangri monastery located at the summit.
Your short adventure of the Ama Yangri trek starts today with your arrival at Kathmandu International Airport. Here, our representative holding a garland and khada will be waiting to welcome you.
After he assists you with your luggage, he will take you to your accommodation in Kathmandu. You will have free time for a short exploration of the city.
Once all participants of our Ama Yangri trek have arrived in Kathmandu, our trek guide will meet with you to give a brief orientation about our Ama Yangri trek itinerary.
You can then get ready for the trek, and if you need any gear, today is the perfect time to buy or rent what you are missing.
Today, we are set for a very picturesque drive along the winding roads of the Nepalese countryside. After an early morning breakfast, we will depart for Timbu, where our Ama Yangri trek begins the next day. Our journey from Kathmandu will take us along the Kathmandu Ringroad towards Jorpati. Soon, we will find ourselves on the Mulpani Sankhu Road, which will connect us with the Melamchi Helambu road. We can see the clear waters of the Melamchi River flowing beside. As we progress, the comfortable road will now transform into a bumpy ride as we enter the Helambu region. Before long, we will be welcomed by the Timbu village. After checking into our lodging, we will have plenty of free time to explore the area surrounding us.
Lacing up our hiking boots, we will now leave Timbu and start our beautiful light hike through the stunning Helambu Valley. The jungle trail will first lead us down to the suspension bridge that crosses the wide Melamchi Khola. After we cross the bridge, the trail will turn east and lightly ascend, guiding us through the Buddhist villages of Nakote, Dozum, and Chiri. Soon, we will find ourselves at the entrance gate of Tarke Ghyang, decorated with high white colored Buddhist chorten. After we settle in, we may go out to explore the ancient 8th-century monastery in the village. This prominent spiritual site of the Hyolmo people is called by various names, such as Churi Gompa, Tsuti Gompa, or Dzoeril Gompa. After our visit to the monastery, we can then direct our gaze to the majestic profile of the 3771 m high Ama Yangri Peak, a sacred motherly peak for the Buddhist people.
We have reached the highlight of our Ama Yangri trek. Getting up still in the dark, we will pack our lunch and then set out for the journey in the light of our headlamps. The route mainly runs through dense vegetation and tall trees for about an hour, after which we will find ourselves at the base camp of the Ama Yangri Peak at 3371 m (Chyomuthang). From here on, we may encounter a light snow on the ascending trail. After around 2 hours, we will be standing atop the summit where the Ama Chummu Yangri monastery is also situated. After visiting the monastery and hanging our prayer flags, we will take a moment to rest in front of the icy edges of the Langtang Range (Langtang Lirung), Ganesh Himal, Dorje Lakpa, Jugal Himal, Manaslu, Annapurna, and Everest as well. We will take both solo and group photos to remember our Ama Yangri trek and descend back to our lodging in Tarke Ghyang.
It is now time for us to get back to the busy civilization of Kathmandu. Leaving Tarke Ghyang, we will climb some soft hills and then hike calmly through the dense forest. We will find many streams scattered along the way as we travel through the lovely Setighyang, Parachin, Ghangyul, and Chhimi villages before we are finally at the Sermanthang community.
Once more, Jugal, Gaurishankar, and Dorje Lhakpa can be seen piercing the blue sky from the village.
After breakfast, we leave Sermathang and drive back to Kathmandu via Melamchi Bazaar. The rest of the day is free to relax at your hotel or explore Thamel.
Sadly, your Ama Yangri trek has come to a close, but we hope the memories you have made with us will stay in your mind for a long time. And, don’t forget to tag us when you share those beautiful moments from your Ama Yangri trek on social media.
Our private transport will be ready to take you back to Kathmandu International Airport three hours before your flight.
